CHALLENGE
India’s banking sector is accelerating its digital transformation, and traditional innovations are not enough to keep pace with developments and evolving regulations. Emerging technologies, like AI and blockchain, were reshaping customer expectations, operational efficiency, and financial accessibility. Bank of Baroda needed a scalable way to tap into fresh thinking, beyond the internal teams, and build a long-term AI platform adoption strategy to re-imagine and deliver world-class customer experience and banking services.
STRATEGY / BIG IDEA
To encourage developer community activation and unlock breakthrough ideas to improve banking services using advanced technologies, we launched the country’s most ambitious innovation platform, Bank of Baroda Hackathon 2024. This enterprise AI hackathon was designed for students and developers to shape the future of banking and finance. The goal of the hackathon wasn’t idea generation, but to activate the adoption of a broader AI platform ecosystem in India and move participants from ideation to working prototypes.
EXECUTION
This enterprise hackathon was designed to be executed at a national scale, and we partnered with 50+ communities, 50+ colleges, and 30+ influencers. Our GTM campaign reached 17M+ impressions and 6.9M+ total reach. The hackathon included:
• 20+ Ideathons were held to spark early-stage problem framing
• 40K+ workshops were hosted to build AI and fintech capabilities
• 25917 developers registered who pushed beyond ideation into prototype development.
OUTCOME
Around 1156 ideas were submitted, 180+ prototypes were built, and 199k+ new users were onboarded to the Bank of Baroda innovation portal. By integrating enterprise hackathon design with an AI platform ecosystem strategy, Bank of Baroda proved that banks can drive tech-powered transformation.
